NEW! Zoom workshop:
Free-Motion Machine Embroidery
Learn to draw and paint using your sewing machine as a noisy paintbrush--- without needing to schlep your sewing machine out of your house.
The inaugural workshop will be Monday-Thursday, February 22-25, 2021 and is suitable for beginners.
You’ll need a working knowledge of your sewing machine and basic sewing skills. Your machine needs to be in good working order.
On Day 1 we’ll explore the Basics of Free-motion Embroidery. Day 1 is a prerequisite for the following days when we’ll explore other topics (stitching flowers, bobbin embroidery and using dissolvable fabric). Days 2-4 teach skills that do not build on one another.
You can opt to take any or all----sign up for the first day and then any other days that interest you.
The class will be structured with group instruction in the morning and one-on-one time in the afternoon.
Day 1 (Monday, February 22):
The Basics of Free-Motion Embroidery. Learn to set-up your machine so you can use it to “draw” and “paint” using just straight stitch and zig-zag stitch. Blend and mix colors by layering threads. Use those skills to create simple projects.
Day 2 (Tuesday, February 23):
Stitch a garden! We will focus on how to stitch different types of flowers and plants.
Day 3 (Wednesday, February 24):
Bobbin embroidery. Learn to set up your machine for bobbin embroidery and play with the various possibilities it offers to add rich texture and unusual effects to your work. *Note that for this workshop, your sewing machine needs to have a bobbin case that is inserted vertically into the machine. It cannot have a drop-in bobbin. You’ll also need at least one extra bobbin case.
Day 4 (Thursday, February 25):
Stitching on dissolvable fabric. Working on dissolvable fabric provides plenty of opportunities for creating lacy 2-D and 3-D work.
