Commissioning a Piece of Fiber Art
Many of my favorite pieces are ones I have created especially for individual clients. I welcome commissions (both landscapes and abstracts) and the opportunity to be inspired by clients’ special spaces.
If you have a place that is close to your heart and brings you joy, I’d love to capture it in fiber for you. It may be someplace you encountered while traveling, a vacation home, your backyard or balcony garden, wherever it is that is special for you.
Or, if you are looking for an abstract piece of fiber art, I would love to create something especially for you and your home.
Commissions are priced by size and range from $100 for a very small and simple piece, up to $3000-$5000 for a large and complex piece of artwork.

The Process:
The first step is to determine whether you are interested in an abstract piece or a representational one.
The first step is to determine whether you are interested in an abstract piece or a representational one.
Commissioning an Abstract Fiber Wallpiece: If you’re going the abstract route, figure out the colors you’d like. I can work from fabric swatches and paint chips if matching colors closely is important to you. Look at the Abstract Paintings in Fiber portfolio to see what appeals to you. Figure out the size you’d like and whether you want a single piece or one with multiple components. I can work to whatever dimensions that you need. Remember that my work is all matted and framed, so the artwork itself will be about 6-8 inches smaller than the framed dimensions. Framing options come at the end of the decision-making process. I can take care of the framing or I can send you the work unframed and your own framer can finish it up for you. We’ll work out all the details, including price. If it’s a large piece with specific colors I may do a small sample for your approval before I begin work on the larger piece. I will email an image of that small sample to you. When I have completed the work I will send you email images of it before I mat, frame and prepare it for shipping. |
Commissioning a Landscape or Garden: Look at my portfolios to determine whether you want a piece that is needle-felted and embroidered (a painting in fiber) or one that is painted and embroidered silk (a stitched impression). Search through your photos for several that capture the essence of the your special place. Or, tell me the type of landscape that inspires you and I’ll try to track down some photos. Think about the size you’d like and the orientation (horizontal or vertical). I can work to whatever dimensions that you need.
