Early in my career as an artist, customers would ask what types of flowers were represented in my work, and I didnt know. As I began to educate myself, a passion for gardening developed which led to my decision to undertake training to become a Master Gardener. Since completing the course in 2005, I have continued to benefit from the knowledge and talent of my fellow Master Gardeners, many of whom generously share their gardens with me to serve as inspiration for my work. Probably because I am an artist and love making things, an aspect of gardening that fascinates me is composting and vermicomposting. I love the idea of taking what other people consider garbage and making it into something valuable. Enriching my soil with compost derived from my yard waste and kitchen scraps allows my gardens to grow healthfully, organically and sustainably. I teach vermicomposting workshops and help maintain a compost demonstration site with other Howard County Master Gardeners.
